Recognition of Proclamation from the City of Peoria

Co President Givens read the Proclamation from the City of Peoria that Mayor Ali delivered at the National Night Out and presented it to Barbara Jackson as she has been gracious enough to have the event held right along side her house for a number of years. And appreciates all her hard work on this event over the years

Wardcliffe Subdivision Block Party

NNOAC is an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make our neighborhoods safer, more caring places to live throughout the United States. NNOAC enhances the relationship between neighbors and law enforcement while bringing back a true sense of community. Furthermore, it provides a great opportunity to bring police and neighbors together under positive circumstances.

Each year Peoria observes this campaign on the first Tuesday in August. The Wardcliffe Neighborhood Association has chosen to observe this event with a block party. We had several officers from our police department attend. The fire department was present, and residents had an opportunity to tour the rescue engine. Advance Medical Transport was also in present. Our elected officials that attended were Mayor Rita Ali, county Clerk Rachael Parker, our Councilwoman Denise Jackson, Councilwoman at large Dr. Bernice Gordon-Young, and Peoria Park District Trustee Alex Sierra of the Southern District.

There were three special businesses that supported the block party with their gracious donations: Young’s Popcorn Heaven, Sweet Cakes by Rachael, and Just For Fun. The owners or representatives live in Wardcliffe Subdivision. Let’s support their businesses with our patronage.

We send a big thanks to Karen Kortz and Chris Everts for our children’s games, and Julie Beckenbaugh for her three “guess the number of pieces of candy” games.

Besides the food tent, Chris Everet had a membership table, Bob Beckenbaugh manned the Call-Em-All (now called Text-Em-All) table, and new for this year, Mary Cantrell hosted the Lyle Hallock Park and Playground table. Many Wardcliffe residents are not aware that we have a park and playground.

We had a wonderful volunteer team that set up, tore down, and served the pizzas. Thank you to everyone that brought extra chairs and tables. It truly takes a village…
